London, December 29 (BNA): Watford may prevent Emmanuel Dennis from going to the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria because he received a call-up too late.
The striker was included in Nigeria’s 28-man squad after impressing with Watford, scoring his goal in the 4-1 loss to West Ham on Tuesday to take them to eighth place this season in the Premier League.
However, after the match, Watford manager Claudio Ranieri said his club had a problem timing the selection of Denis because he came outside a pre-arranged window, according to the Associated Press.
Nigeria is in Group D with Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau. Its first match against Egypt is on January 11.
Dennis is among the players who have been given permission to delay joining their national teams before the tournament so they can play for their clubs over the holidays.
