Manchester, Aug. 15 (BNA): Manchester United came under fire from former players after they suffered a crushing 4-0 defeat at Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday, in their second loss in a number of league matches under new coach Eric. Ten hag.
The result left United at the bottom of the standings as Dutchman Ten Hag became the first coach since John Chapman in 1921 to lose his first two games for the club, Reuters reported.
BBC analyst Chris Sutton said United had “hit rock bottom” while their former attacking partner Alan Shearer had set a disaster for years of mismanagement at Old Trafford.
“It’s utter chaos,” Shearer said on BBC’s Match of the Day.
“It will take time and an incredible amount of money to get things right, and a lot of patience from the Manchester United fans. They are miles from where they want to be.”
Brentford scored four goals in the span of 35 minutes in the first half against a grieving United side that has now lost seven consecutive games on the road to last season.
Former United defender Gary Neville, who has criticized the owners of the Glazer family, said we are witnessing a “club annihilation”.
“I thought United would do better, but they were attacked, intimidated and manipulated like you wouldn’t believe, there is nowhere to hide,” he said on Sky Sports.
“I’ve been watching United for 42 years and can’t think of a moment when I thought things were as bad as the one in the first half.”
The Sunday Times went by “Rock bottom” while The Sun called it “Ten Green Bottle Jobs”, referring to the color of the new third shirt United were wearing.
United, who finished sixth last season to miss the Champions League, host Liverpool next Monday.
