Pope Francis in hospital for second abdominal surgery in two years

Rome June 7 (BNA): Pope Francis entered a hospital in Rome on Wednesday for another abdominal operation under general anesthesia, this time to repair a hernia likely caused by surgical scarring in 2021.

Reuters reported that Francis, 86, showed no sign that he was about to enter the hospital for surgery during his public audience in St.

Shortly thereafter, he left the Vatican in a simple white Fiat 500 L for the Catholic-run Gemelli Hospital a short drive away that has a tenth-floor ward reserved for popes.

The surgery, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, will make Francis’ third hospital stay since the Argentine was chosen by cardinals as Latin America’s first pope in 2013.
