Plane with 72 people on board crashes in Nepal

New Delhi, Jan. 15 (BNA): A passenger plane with 72 people on board crashed near Pokhara International Airport in Nepal, the Kathmandu Post daily reported Sunday.

The newspaper, quoting a spokesman for Yeti Airlines, said the plane was carrying 68 passengers and four crew members.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said the plane was en route from the capital, Kathmandu, to Pokhara in central Nepal, and he urged security personnel and the public to help with rescue efforts, the Associated Press reports.

Pictures and videos circulated on Twitter showed plumes of smoke rising from the crash site as rescue workers and crowds of people gathered around the wreckage.
