Hong Kong cuts foreign arrival quarantine from 21 to 14 days

Hong Kong, Jan. 28 (BNA): Hong Kong has reduced the mandatory quarantine period for people arriving from abroad from 21 to 14 days, even as the southern Chinese city battles a new surge in coronavirus cases.

Hong Kong is a major business and finance hub, and the tight restrictions on overseas travel have drawn complaints, particularly from its large expat community, according to the Associated Press.

After leaving their quarantine hotels, travelers will still need to stay home for an additional seven days for self-monitoring.

In-person classes will remain suspended until February 21 and flight bans will extend from the United States, Australia, Canada, France, India, Pakistan, the Philippines and Britain where case numbers remain high until February 18.

Restaurants still need to close at 6:00 pm, proof of vaccination is required to access many public areas and some apartment buildings are still closed.

On Friday, authorities announced 164 new cases, most of them imported or linked to imported cases.
