Geneva, June 7 (BNA): Minister of Labor and Social Development Jamil bin Muhammad Ali Humaidan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, headed the delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the 111th session of the International Labor Conference held in Switzerland. From 5 to 16 June.
The delegation included representatives of the government and employers (represented by Sameer Abdullah Nass, President of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry), and workers (represented by Abdul Qadir Al Shehabi, Secretary General of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (GFBTU) and self-employment in Bahrain. Chief Executive of the Federation of Trade Unions Yacoub Yusuf Mohammed And members of the permanent delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in Geneva.
The International Labor Conference is a major conference held annually by the International Labor Organization (ILO), bringing together tripartite (government-employer-worker) delegations from member countries. It discusses employment and social protection issues and promotes tripartite consultations.
The conference will focus on discussing the report of the Director General of the International Labor Office on the promotion of social justice. The report deals with the repercussions of various factors and crises that negatively affect labor markets, the advancement of social justice, and the promotion of decent work.
The conference will also discuss the adoption of an international recommendation to regulate apprenticeships, a report on social protection, a report dealing with a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies, and a report on the implementation of international labor agreements and recommendations.
The minister affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to participate in the International Labor Conference to highlight the progress made in labor market reforms and its development and regulations, in line with the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the efforts of the government headed by His Royal Highness.
