Imam of Al Azhar, Pope Francis co-chair Muslim Elders Council meeting in Bahrain

Manama, November 1 (BNA) The Kingdom of Bahrain will host on November 4 the 16th meeting of the Muslim Council of Elders, coinciding with the historic official visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Bahrain at the invitation of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The meeting will be chaired by the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, in the presence of His Holiness Pope Francis.

The meeting will review global challenges, including climate change, food and water shortages, and other humanitarian disasters, and the role of religious leaders in addressing them through Muslim-Christian dialogue.

The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders and the Higher Committee for Human Fraternity, Counselor Mohamed Abdel Salam, stressed that the meeting symbolizes the relationship between leaders and followers of different religions by providing practical steps and solutions to these challenges from a religious and legal perspective.
