Health Minister to chair WHA main committee

Geneva, May 21 (BNA): Minister of Health, Dr. Jalila bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan, was elected by the World Health Assembly as Chairperson of the Main Committee of the World Health Assembly (a), which deals with major technical issues such as health and health systems. Universal health coverage. and emergency preparedness and response.

This came on the sidelines of the 76th session of the World Health Assembly, which opened today in Geneva, Switzerland, and will continue until May 31.

“This is the first time that a head of the Bahrain delegation has been elected to this important position, which is central to the work of the World Health Assembly,” the minister said.

In a statement, she stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is working side by side with the World Health Organization to implement programs and initiatives aimed at developing health systems and enhancing health security.

This campaign is in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to achieve the goals of sustainable development related to health.

Dr. Jalila chairs the committee, which mainly discusses enhancing the efficiency of the WHO in providing countries with better support and a proposed budget for the period 2024-2025.

The committee is also tasked with discussing how an additional 1 billion people will benefit from universal health coverage, 1 billion more people will be better protected from health emergencies, and 1 billion more people will enjoy better health and well-being.
