London, March 13 (BNA) Kai Havertz scored the winning goal in the 89th minute to give Chelsea a 1-0 win over Newcastle in the English Premier League on Sunday, the Associated Press reported.
Havertz used his superb first touch to control a cross into the penalty area, then scored a quiet finish in the net to set off wild celebrations among the fans at Stamford Bridge.
The win came after a 3-1 win over Norwich on Thursday and kept Chelsea’s strong grip on third place in the standings.
For Newcastle, it was the club’s first loss in the league this year, ending nine games unbeaten.
