Wirtz leads 10-man Leverkusen to 3-1 win at Stuttgart

London, September 19 / BNA / Florian Verts led Bayer Leverkusen, a 10-man group, to a 3-1 victory over its guest Stuttgart on Sunday, causing the American coach Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team to lose for the third time in five matches in the German League this season.

The 18-year-old assisted Leverkusen’s second goal in the 19th minute and scored the third to give the visitors their third win of the season.

An Associated Press report today said that Robert Andreich was the pivotal figure for Leverkusen in the first half – for mixed reasons.

Andreich scored the opening goal – his first since his summer move from Union Berlin – in the second minute, but was sent off with the team leading 2-0 in the 30th minute.

Virts had made Patrick Schick the second goal for Leverkusen and the visitors seemed to score more as they maintained control of the match until Andric was sent off.

Orel Mangala equalized the equalizer in the 38th minute, ending the rebound after Lukash Hradec brilliantly saved Konstantinos Mavropanos’ header from a free kick. The first half provided a welcome break for Leverkusen.

Leverkusen’s Karim Demirbay was involved in a volley of the ball that landed in front of Virts who ran forward and shot inside the far corner in the 70th minute. This time, Stuttgart received no response.
