Ronaldo scores, West Ham misses penalty as Man United wins

London, September 19 (BNA): Cristiano Ronaldo started his comeback with Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over West Ham thanks to Mark Noble’s miss in stoppage time for the hosts immediately after he was sent off the bench on Sunday.

The club’s captain was sent by manager David Moyes to take the penalty after Luke Shaw was tackled in the area, reports The Associated Press today.

The tall midfielder, who retired at the end of the season, has not missed a penalty since December 2016, but United goalkeeper David de Gea prevented him from achieving the winning goal.

It was a dramatic end to an exciting match that saw Jesse Lingard score the winning goal for United against the club he starred in while on loan last season. The England striker curled into the net in the 89th minute.

Ronaldo had earlier scored his fourth goal in three matches since his return to United, and canceled the opening goal of Said Benrahma for the hosts.
