Watford beats Aston Villa 1-0 to boost hopes of EPL survival

London Feb 19 (BUS): Emmanuel Dennis ended Watford’s scoring drought and helped boost the club’s hopes of survival in the Premier League with a late header in a 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

Ismael Sarr hit a cross into the middle of the area and overtook substitute Dennis Ashley Young before hitting the ball with a powerful header into the net in the 78th minute at Villa Park.

Watford’s first league victory since their 4-1 victory over Manchester United on November 20 was also their first under manager Roy Hodgson, who recently replaced Claudio Ranieri.

The victory has propelled Watford into the relegation zone, although they are still four points behind 17th-placed Newcastle.

The young club played four matches in the league without scoring any goals. The Villa midfield team led by Steven Gerrard have scored just one win in their last seven league games, according to the Associated Press.
