LONDON, Nov. 29 (BNA): Prince William and his wife Kate departed for the United States on Wednesday for their first visit in eight years, as intense media spotlights on Britain’s royal family and King Charles’ children moved across the Atlantic. .
The US trip will be the first overseas trip for the new Prince and Princess of Wales since the death of Queen Elizabeth, which means William – Charles’ eldest son – has become heir to the throne.
The visit takes on added significance as it comes just days before Los Angeles-based William’s younger brother Prince Harry and his American wife Meghan are to be spotlighted at the prestigious awards ceremony ahead of a Netflix TV documentary and diary revelations.
William and Kate will be visiting Boston, primarily to attend the awards ceremony for the Prince’s Earthshot environmental prize. The royals see it as a trip rather than a traditional tour.
The last time they visited the United States in November 2014, they were guests of then-President Barack Obama at the White House.
Less significant will be this visit: They’ll visit local environmental, educational, and community projects in Boston, though the Earthshot concert itself will be a star-studded event with the likes of Grammy-winning singer Billie Eilish and Academy Award-winning actor Rami Malek.
“Our first focus … is the Earthshot prize and we won’t be distracted by other things,” said a source close to William.
During their three-day stay, William, 40, and Kate, 40, will visit the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum where they will meet Caroline Kennedy, the former president’s daughter and now the US ambassador to Australia.
In a few days, Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will go to New York to receive the Robert F. Kennedy Rebel Award of Hope where they will be recognized for their commitment to social change and human rights work, in group. Which also includes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
