Tech, ethics take centre stage at Annual International Conference of Bahrain Chapter of ICAI

Manama on December 5 (BNA):More than 300 chartered accountants from across the region and as far as India and the UK – CEOs, CFOs and COOs – will gather in Bahrain for the 14th Annual International Conference of the Bahrain chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (BCICAI).


The conference will be held from December 9 to 10 under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.


The conference is themed “New Horizons Picks” and a slate of star speakers will examine topics affecting professional change management, personal life people, and lessons in entrepreneurial success.


“This year’s conference is special because we have 17 speakers who will be speaking on topics as diverse as fraud, corporate mistakes, implications for governance, auditors and accountants, and concerns about privacy and cybersecurity,” said Sharmila Chet, Chair of BCICAI.


“There will be lessons from success stories of the likes of Kanika Tikriwal, Sudha Chandran, actor Padmashree Manoj Joshi and Major General Vikram Dev Dogra, the ‘Ironman of India’, motivation and leadership coach and TEDx speaker.”


The opening session of the conference will be addressed by Dua Abdulla Al Muallem, Head of Financial Analysis and Economic Information, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, represented by the Central Bank of Bahrain, along with Indian Ambassador to Bahrain Piyush Srivastava, and Managing Partner of KPMG Bahrain, Jamal Fakhro and Abbas Ali. Radhi, Chairman of the Bahrain Association of Accountants, who will join notable figures from the global CA fraternity.

The conference is valuable to participants who will be given 12 CPE (Continuing Professional Education) hours towards their mandatory annual requirements.


The Chairman said, “When we started our tradition of annual conferences, Bahrain’s reputation as an exhibition and conference destination was emerging. Today, we have many professional conferences, workshops, and seminars, and the Kingdom’s exhibition and conference infrastructure has grown impressively.”

Keynote speakers include Indian Minister of Roads and Transport, Shri Nitin Gadkari who will be addressing the conference virtually, CA (Dr.) Debashis Mitra – President of ICAI, CA Aniket Talati Vice President, CA Ajay Seth – Chief Financial Officer of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, and Dr. Narendra Gadha – Consultant Former International Monetary Fund and former Chief Economist of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Kanika Tikriwal – CEO of JetSetGo, India’s leading private jet charter service, and a Forbes 30 Under 30 business leader.


Other notable speakers are Ravi Lahoti, Chief Audit Executive of India’s Bandhan Bank on the topic of money laundering. Roberto Mancon, CEO of Beyon Money whose talk will focus on Bahrain’s burgeoning digital economy; Adeeb Ibrahim, Managing Director (Protiviti UAE), and Jose Thomas, Director (Protiviti Bahrain) – will talk about cloud services in the context of emerging technology trends.


India-based CA Veni Thapar will analyze the chartered accountancy profession in the age of artificial intelligence. Nishith Saxena, Grant Thornton Bahrain will highlight concerns and opportunities in the field of cyber security. Sima Kassat, Director, KPMG, Bahrain and Camille Jaida, Director, KPMG, Bahrain will explore new horizons in an evolving market.
