The Elementary Teacher Assistant must be an active member of the classroom community; Engage and support the lessons enthusiastically. The Elementary Teacher Assistant will help enforce class rules and organize students’ personal belongings. The elementary teacher’s assistant, when there is no need to work directly with the students, will help prepare the material under the teacher’s supervision.
Main areas of responsibility
• Encourage students to engage in learning and stay on task during lessons or activities.
• Positive participation model by joining in class activities.
• Work with the class teacher. Managing difficult pupil behavior and promoting positive behaviour.
• Contribute ideas, creativity and enthusiasm to the activities and classroom environment.
• Providing educational activities for students. On an individual basis or in small groups.
• Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers about students’ progress.
• Handling administrative duties and preparing classroom resources.
• Ensure the safety of students outside the classroom. Walkways and outdoor play areas.
• Helping students develop positive hygiene habits. Proper hand washing.
• Supervise students who have had accidents, who need help getting dressed or who feel uncomfortable.
• Creating artistic presentations for students’ artwork.
• Provide support outside of the regular classroom, such as help during exams, cover TA absences or go on school trips.
• Assistance in extracurricular activities. Breakfast and after-school clubs, homework club, review sessions or lunchtime homework.
• Support the social and emotional development of pupils, and report any problems when needed.
• Assist with cleaning and encourage children to help clean classroom areas.
• Assist in maintaining classroom and corridor discipline.
• Show respect for other professionals.
• Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Talk to parents in general, if a parent has questions that you don’t answer and refer them to the teacher for details.
• Responsible for taking the class lunch box to the cafeteria and returning it to the class after breaks.

Al Shumookh International School (SIS) is a new global K-12 school in Muscat. The school was opened by Global Education Services (GES) for the 2015/2016 academic year in Al Hail.
