Special Envoy for Climate Affairs hails BIA’s milestone in quest for carbon neutrality

Manama, October 6 (BNA) The Special Envoy for Climate Affairs and CEO of the Supreme Council for the Environment, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Dina, praised Bahrain’s achievements in reducing carbon emissions at airports, such as Bahrain International Airport. (BIA) was able to meet all requirements to upgrade to “Optimal” Level 3, as stipulated by the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Carbon Certification Program.

The Special Envoy praised the efforts of the Bahrain Airport Company and the health, safety and environment team at the airport to reduce carbon emissions and the environmental impact of the new building, stressing the authority’s keenness to continue supporting the efforts adopted by various parties. Dr. Bin Dina pointed out that this achievement is added to Bahrain’s series of achievements in the field of environmental preservation, adaptation and mitigation of the effects of climate change, especially that Bahrain International Airport is among 25 airports in Asia and the Middle East that received this accreditation, which reflects the airport staff’s commitment and keenness to develop Bahrain’s reputation in this field, which contributes to achieving the sustainable development goals in Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.

He said that BIA’s pursuit of carbon neutrality and obtaining the Gold Certificate in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) reflects Bahrain’s interest in sustainable development, which depends on moving at a steady pace towards prosperity and development through the best modern methods to maintain a balance between modern renaissance and sustainable development that takes into account safety Man and the environment, wishing to achieve more environmental achievements that contribute to the goals of sustainable development.
