Shehbaz Sherif submits nomination for prime minister to Pakistani parliament

Islamabad, April 10 (BNA) His party said today, Sunday, that politician Shahbaz Sharif submitted his candidacy for the post of Pakistan’s next prime minister to the legislature after President Imran Khan lost a vote of no-confidence in Parliament after nearly four years in power.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother, Shahbaz, 70, has led the opposition’s bid in parliament to oust former cricket star Khan, and is widely expected to replace him after Monday’s vote, Reuters reported.

A party spokeswoman said on Sunday that the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had handed over his nomination papers, Marium Aurangzeb.

“A new dawn has begun… This alliance will rebuild Pakistan,” Shahbaz Sharif told parliament on Sunday.

Sharif has for years been Chief Minister of Punjab Province and has a reputation as an effective official.
