Indonesia: 99 children died from acute kidney injury this year

Jakarta, Oct. 19 (BNA) An official at the Indonesian Ministry of Health told reporters today, Wednesday, that nearly 100 children in Indonesia have died from acute kidney injury (AKI) this year.

Health Ministry spokesman Muhammad Siahrel said officials had identified 206 cases as of October 18, with 99 deaths recorded, Reuters reported.

The rise in deaths comes as the Gambia government is investigating the deaths of 70 children from acute renal failure linked to paracetamol syrup used to treat fever, which contains excessive levels of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol.
