SCW Secretary-General receives UNCPGA President

Manama, April 30 (BNA): The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women, Hala Al-Ansari, received the President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Chaba Korosi.

The meeting discussed issues of common concern, and focused on Bahrain’s progress in achieving gender balance and equality by establishing cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to enhance Bahrain’s efforts in the field of gender balance.

The two sides also reviewed ways to enhance Bahrain’s plans, initiatives and programs through the Supreme Council for Women to ensure the effective participation of women in achieving sustainable development.

Al-Ansari affirmed the keenness of the Supreme Council for Women, led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King, to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations in various developmental fields related to women.

She affirmed the Supreme Council for Women’s readiness to provide the necessary knowledge and tools to achieve gender balance and equality at the national level.

She added that the resulting performance indicators and qualitative recommendations would serve as a guide for national authorities and institutions.

The President of the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations General Assembly stressed that these meetings fall within the framework of the United Nations’ work to continue cooperation with the Supreme Council for Women and serve all issues related to women.

Korosi expressed the commitment of the United Nations to mobilize the necessary resources and capabilities to achieve success in this cooperation.
