Public Security Chief opens training workshop

Manama, May 31 (BNA): A training workshop on the United Nations Convention against Corruption has been approved.

Chief of Public Security Lieutenant General Tariq bin Hassan Al-Hassan inaugurated the workshop at the headquarters of the Royal Academy of Police.

The workshop will also focus on the recommendations received by the Kingdom of Bahrain as a result of the Implementation Review Mechanism in its first and second sessions.

The General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security organizes the scheme along with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

Lt. Gen. Al-Hassan explained that the training workshop came after directives from the Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, praising Bahrain’s achievements in the field of combating corruption in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and local and international partners.

Lieutenant-General Al-Hassan said, “The Kingdom of Bahrain has made great strides in combating corruption, which has contributed to strengthening its position among countries.”

The Director General of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security Brigadier General Bassam Mohammed Al-Maraj referred to Bahrain’s steps in keeping pace with the challenges and risks that negatively affect the economy.

He highlighted the establishment of the General Directorate for Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security within an integrated system to address all financial, electronic and corruption crimes.


He stressed the importance of enhancing the efficiency of law enforcement agencies to combat the scourge of corruption and enhance integrity at the local and international levels through cooperation with all concerned parties.

He praised the international cooperation to improve the implementation of the international requirements dictated by the agreements concerned with promoting integrity and combating corruption, especially the United Nations Convention on the UN Anti-Corruption Council, which has become an international tool for best practices to enhance integrity.

The three-day workshop sheds light on the United Nations Convention against Corruption, its review mechanism and cooperation frameworks between all relevant institutions.
