On behalf of HM King, HH Shaikh Nasser honours top-achieving athletes

Manama, December 26 (BNA) His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, on behalf of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs, honored today in the presence of the first country. Vice President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the Public Authority for Sports, President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, a number of outstanding athletes.

His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Zayed Al Nahyan presented medals to the athletes in appreciation of their achievements that contributed to raising the flags of the Kingdom in various sports gatherings.

His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Zayed Al Nahyan presented a medal to middle-distance runner Maryam Jamal, the gold medal winner at the 2012 London Olympics. The Bahraini athlete had placed third in the women’s 1500m race in London 2012, but was promoted to first place in the International Olympic Committee and the Federation IAAF when gold and silver medalists were disqualified for doping-related offences.

His Highness Sheikh Nasser also presented medals to Second Lieutenant Abdullah Al Sayed Attia for braking the world record during the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, and his entry into the Guinness Book of Records for running the entire marathon in full military uniform, as well as for the sergeant. – Major Ibrahim Al-Tamimi, who broke the Gulf record in the Valencia Marathon, Sina Monfaradi by winning the gold medal in the World Masters Championship in Jiu-Jitsu, and Hisham Nour for winning the gold medal in the same tournament.

On this occasion, His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Zayed Al Nahyan affirmed His Majesty the King’s firm support for the youth and sports movement in the Kingdom, noting that the outstanding sports achievements are the outcome of royal patronage.

His Highness stressed that His Majesty’s generous gesture of awarding medals to outstanding athletes confirms the royal appreciation for the heroes who raised national flags in international forums.

His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Zayed Al Nahyan called on the heroes of Bahrain to make more efforts in the future to achieve more achievements for the Kingdom.

The honored athletes expressed their sincere thanks, appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty the King for awarding them the medals, noting that the royal gesture embodies His Majesty King Hamad’s patronage of sports in Bahrain.

They also praised His Highness Sheikh Nasser and His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad for their great support to the athletes in Bahrain, and pledged to do their utmost to achieve more achievements for the Kingdom.
