Oil Minister meets with Head of UN Adaptation Fund

Sharm El-Sheikh, Nov. 17 (BNA): Minister of Oil and Environment, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, Dr. Muhammad bin Mubarak bin Dinah, stressed the importance of international support for environmental projects and initiatives in small island states. Protect them from the impact of climate change.

This came during a meeting with Mikko Oleikainen, Head of the United Nations Adaptation Fund, at the Bahrain Pavilion at the exhibition accompanying the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Dr. Bin Dinah praised the fund’s role in supporting developing countries to adapt to climate change. He referred to Bahrain’s programs and initiatives launched to combat the effects of climate change.

Small island states are the hardest hit by climate change, the oil and environment minister said, citing rising surface waters, damaged groundwater, rising temperatures and increasing desertification. He pointed out that the Kingdom of Bahrain is looking forward to more support from the Green Climate Fund in order to ensure the continuity of projects and programs adopted by the Kingdom in order to adapt to the effects of climate change.

It is worth noting that the Green Climate Fund is interested in supporting projects, programmes, policies and other activities related to the green economy, and increasing climate financing under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
