OIC urges an immediate ceasefire in Sudan

Jeddah, April 17 (BNA): The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, renewed his call for an immediate cease-fire between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan.

Taha made the call shortly after an earlier statement calling on the General Command of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to stop fighting and resort to dialogue and negotiations, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

He expressed his deep concern about the continuing fighting and violence that has resulted in the death and injury of many people in Sudan.

He warned that the escalation of the fighting will have dire consequences for civilians and the humanitarian situation in Sudan, especially since the ongoing battles are raging in Sudanese cities.

He stressed the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s support for international efforts aimed at reaching a truce in the country with the aim of delivering humanitarian aid and facilitating the evacuation of the wounded and disabled in areas close to the clashes.

He urged a return to the peaceful track and negotiations to overcome the serious crisis that threatens Sudan’s security, safety and unity.
