‘No Time To Die’ and ‘Dune’ lead the field in first Oscars shortlists

London, Dec. 22 (BUS): “No Time to Die” and “Dunes” lead the first round of films nominated for the 94th Academy Awards.

The German news agency (dpa) reported that both films were shortlisted in four categories after 10 films were announced on Tuesday.

Daniel Craig’s latest outing as James Bond, “No Time To Die” was shortlisted for makeup, styling, music (original song), sound and visual effects.

The science fiction epic “Dune” directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet and Oscar Isaac, was shortlisted for makeup, design, music (original score), sound and visual effects.

Other categories announced are Documentaries, Documentary Short Subject, International Feature Film, Animated Short Film and Short Film.

Many of the films received were categorized into two categories. Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical film “Belfast,” starring Jamie Dornan, has been shortlisted for sound and music (original song) for Down To Joy.

Dornan, 39, recently told The Times that his late father’s not being able to see the film, which focuses on problems in Northern Ireland, which will be shown in January, is “brutal”.

“Spiderman: No Way Home,” starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, also received two nominations on the shortlist for sound and visual effects.

The web-throwing movie was a huge box office success in its opening weekend in December, grossing an estimated $600 million worldwide.

It has only been beaten by “Avengers: Infinity War” which grossed $640 million globally, and “Avengers: Endgame” which grossed $1.2 billion.

Three other Marvel films were nominated for visual effects: “Black Widow,” “Eternals,” and “Shang Chi: Legend Of The Ten Rings.”
