NIHR Board of Commissioners holds coordination meeting

Manama, August 1 (BNA): The Board of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights headed by Ali Ahmed Al-Dirazi held a coordination meeting on the upcoming field visits to reform, rehabilitation and detention centers during Ashura. Celebrating the anniversary of the year 2022 to follow up the freedom granted to inmates to practice their religious rites easily and without any infringement on the freedom and privacy of inmates of other religions and sects.

During the meeting, the Board of Commissioners approved an integrated program in preparation for the visits over several days. She highlighted the importance of ensuring that all inmates continue to practice their religious rites, in line with international standards related to the protection of inmates’ rights, including those related to the practice of religious rites, with a focus on observing reform systems and rehabilitation centers.

The Board of Commissioners affirmed that based on the institution’s role and competencies stipulated in the law of its establishment, and in a framework of transparency and clarity to work to protect and consolidate human rights, a report on field visits will be issued by members of the Board of Commissioners who will commemorate Ashura this year. The report will explain the procedures and services carried out by the management of the centers with regard to the inmates’ practice of their religious rites.
