iGA organises workshop on Education Indicators and Education Expenditures Form

Manama, July 13 (BNA): The Statistics and Population Department of the Information and e-Government Authority, in partnership with the Statistical Center for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, organized a workshop on education indicators and the education spending request form.

The workshop aimed at strengthening Gulf cooperation and highlighting the importance of exchanging and presenting international indicators that support sustainable development in the educational sectors in the GCC countries.

The event focused on key areas, including capacity building of participants on methodologies endorsed by UNESCO and other sources for calculating spending on education in the public and private sectors, as well as civil society.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of calculating national education indicators based on international standards and comparing them with other countries around the world. This helps determine Bahrain’s position in the global statistical rankings and identify areas that need improvement.

The workshop, which was moderated by former UNESCO expert Youssef Falah Ismail, enhanced the participants’ skills in calculating and classifying education spending data in the Kingdom. This included the measurement of salaries and wages for both faculty and non-teaching staff, as well as spending on public education from the capitalist and operational sectors, households and the private sector.

The workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, the Ministry of Education and the General Secretariat of the Higher Education Council.

The workshop sessions discussed topics, including the general framework for education statistics based on UNESCO methodologies, methods for calculating gross and net enrollment rates, and defining full-time and part-time teachers.
