Foreign Minister highlights Bahrain’s strides in combatting trafficking in persons, respecting human rights

Manama, June 15 (BNA): Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, praised the Kingdom’s success in consolidating its leadership in the field of protecting and promoting human rights. And consolidating its prestigious international position in the field of human rights within “Tier 1” for the sixth year in a row in the US State Department’s 2023 Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP), which is the highest annual international classification in this field.


On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs extended his sincere congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.


He expressed his pride in the Kingdom’s success in achieving this human rights achievement, as it is a renewed global vote of confidence in its advanced constitutional, legislative and judicial systems that establish tolerance and peaceful coexistence and preserve rights, freedoms and human dignity for all without discrimination. based on gender, origin, language, religion or belief.


Dr. Al-Zayani praised the continuous cooperation between the legislative, executive and judicial authorities, praising the coordination with human rights institutions and civil society in promoting and protecting human rights and dignity. He pointed to the Kingdom’s keenness to criminalize the exploitation and abuse of human beings under the Anti-Human Trafficking Law (1) of 2008, and other laws compatible with the Kingdom’s accession to seven of the nine major international human rights instruments.

He praised the Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, for his efforts in the field of law enforcement.


In this regard, he praised the Minister of Interior’s support for the Directorate of Combating Human Trafficking and Protection of Public Morals at the General Department of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence, by enabling it to efficiently perform its tasks in combating crimes, receiving complaints and conducting investigations. Arresting the accused and referring them to the Public Prosecution, implementing the draft criminal system, spreading media awareness, and communicating with embassies and consulates.


He also praised the Minister of Interior’s continued support for the efforts of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.


He also appreciated the efforts of the Minister of Labor and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, Jamil bin Muhammad Ali Humaidan, to provide a safe and fair environment in the labor market and to implement integrated measures and procedures to combat human trafficking. In persons subject to the rule of law, follow up on the Expatriate Labor Protection Center, and promote the achievements of labor market reform through the implementation of the wage subsidy system, the optional insurance system for domestic workers, the introduction of the labor registration system, and the fight against forced labor.


The Minister of Foreign Affairs also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking for its role in enhancing coordination between the Ministries of Interior, Justice, Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Foreign Affairs, Social Development and Information, in addition to the Labor Market Regulatory Authority.

He also praised the committee’s cooperation with the judiciary and civil society in combating human trafficking and respecting human rights.


The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his pride in the fruitful cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United States of America in the fields of human rights, politics and development, praising the continuous cooperation with the diplomatic and consular missions of brotherly and friendly countries, as well as with the relevant authorities. International organizations.


He affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain will continue its leadership in the field of human rights and humanitarian achievements, in line with its historical values ​​and constitutional foundations in preserving and promoting human rights and dignity on the basis of respect, equality and justice, based on the approach of His Majesty the King. And the directives of the government led by His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
