UK Defence Minister Wallace to step down

London, July 15 (BNA): British Defense Minister Ben Wallace will not stand for Parliament in the upcoming national elections in the United Kingdom, and will leave the government when Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conducts the next cabinet reshuffle.

According to Reuters, Wallace, a member of the ruling Conservative party, has been an MP for Werry, Preston North and his former constituency in the northwest of England since 2005.

Sunak faces three by-elections next week, and opinion polls suggest his conservative party could lose them all.

He was considered as a possible successor to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, but this month Stoltenberg’s contract was extended for another year.
