New York, July 17 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia discussed ways to enhance their cooperation in accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals and supporting the alignment of government programs and initiatives with the 2030 Agenda.
The discussion took place in the joint meeting between Her Excellency Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, and Her Excellency Noor bint Ali Al Khalif, Minister of Sustainable Development. His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, and His Excellency Faisal bin Fadel Al-Ibrahim, Minister of Economy and Planning in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This came on the sidelines of their participation in the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2023, to present their countries’ Voluntary National Review (VNR) on progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and accelerating the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.
The two ministers discussed the innovative practices adopted by the two countries to achieve sustainable development and deepen their expertise and knowledge about the dedication of the 2030 Agenda in government strategies and programmes.
Al-Rumaihi stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain has a clear vision for the future of sustainable development in the country and is working to transform this vision into reality within the housing sector, as it continues to develop and invest in sustainable urban cities and residential communities, in line with Goal 11.
Al-Khulaif stressed the government’s commitment to strengthening regional and international partnerships to support facing local and global sustainable development challenges.
She said that through constructive partnerships, exchange of knowledge and exchange of experiences, the optimal path to achieve sustainability goals can be achieved.
For his part, Al-Ibrahim praised the efforts made by the Kingdom of Bahrain to fully achieve the goals of sustainable development, and shared best practices and innovative work models set by the Saudi government in this endeavour. He also encouraged cooperation between the two countries in exchanging knowledge and experiences in the field of sustainable development.
