Interior Minister meets with US Secretary of Homeland Security

New York June 10 (Us): The Minister of Interior, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, met during his visit to the United States with the US Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorcas. The Minister of Homeland Security praised the visit of the Minister of Interior, praising her role in enhancing security cooperation and coordination between the two sides. He pointed to the importance of agreements and memorandums of understanding previously signed between the Ministry of Homeland Security and the Bahraini Ministry of Interior, which strengthened cooperation to achieve common strategic and security goals.


Meanwhile, the Minister of Interior highlighted the distinguished relations between Bahrain and the United States and their mutual dedication to expanding their partnership to serve the interests of the two countries. He praised the fruitful cooperation and exchange of experiences in enhancing security, law enforcement and criminal justice through their strategic partnership and their dedication to jointly facing security challenges.


He highlighted the various projects and initiatives of the Ministry of Interior, pointing to the need to secure the future and expand partnerships to protect young people from current challenges, including rapid technological progress and the risks associated with maintaining a large presence on the Internet through forums and video games.


He praised the United States’ support for Bahrain’s accession to the Global Entry Program after activating the “Reliable Traveler” agreement signed between the two countries in January 2021. He indicated that the program is working efficiently, and many Bahrainis have benefited from it after the issuance of the previously approved travel permit was expedited through development. Comprehensive visa system between the two countries.


He emphasized security cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including cybersecurity, which is one of the most important global challenges that must be faced collectively.


He said that the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides last year enhanced constructive cooperation between the National Center for Cybersecurity in Bahrain and the US Agency for Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security. He added that technological development requires more vigilance, proactive measures and cooperative partnerships to build capabilities, exchange experiences and adopt best practices.


The meeting reviewed security coordination and how to enhance capabilities and open new opportunities for bilateral cooperation. Cooperation and exchange of experiences in confronting drones were also highlighted through training courses to increase efficiency and readiness. Several regional and international issues and developments were also discussed to maintain security and develop joint efforts to confront current security challenges.


During the meeting, the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Homeland Security signed a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Interior and the Department of Homeland Security to cooperate in preventing and combating human trafficking. The MoU promotes broad cooperation, including the exchange of information to detect, investigate and prosecute cases of trafficking in persons, the provision of protection and assistance to victims, as well as technical cooperation and preventive measures such as training and education programs and seminars. and workshops on addressing human trafficking.


The Minister of Interior assured the Secretary of the serious and effective cooperation to implement the memorandum, indicating his appreciation for the US State Department’s classification of Bahrain as a first-class country in addressing human trafficking since 2018. He affirmed Bahrain’s keenness to build on it. This achievement and its intention to cooperate with regional and international partners in combating human trafficking.
