HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister chairs weekly Cabinet Meeting

Manama, October 24 (BNA) His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, chaired today the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers at Al-Qudaibiya Palace.

The Cabinet directed government agencies to follow up on the recommendations contained in the annual report of the National Audit Bureau 2020-2021 and to take the necessary measures to develop the management of public funds and their administrative and financial performance.

The Council of Ministers decided to refer the report to the Governmental Executive Committee to oversee the implementation of the recommendations contained therein in accordance with the mechanism followed during the review of previous reports of the Bureau.

The Cabinet expressed its thanks to all ministries and government agencies that did not provide any substantive observations in this year’s report, highlighting the role played by the Audit Bureau in strengthening governance to achieve correct practices in this field.

The Cabinet announced that the Kingdom of Bahrain aims to reach net zero emissions by 2060 to meet the challenges of climate change and protect the environment.

The Cabinet welcomed the launch by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of the first package of “Green Kingdom” initiatives led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. In addition to the announcement by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, that Saudi Arabia will reduce its net zero emissions by 2060 through a circular approach to the carbon economy.

The Cabinet stressed the importance of these initiatives and their objectives in protecting the environment and facing the challenges of climate change.

During the meeting, the Council of Ministers discussed several memoranda with the following results:

Agree to the following notes:

1 – A memorandum from the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding several memoranda of understanding and an executive plan between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

2 – A memorandum from the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding the request of the Supreme Council for the Environment to join an agreement on the establishment of the Global Institute for Green Growth, which aims to promote sustainable development and economic, environmental and environmental upgrading. Social conditions through international public-private partnerships.

3- The memorandum of the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs on pledges related to health and climate change, which are in line with the international commitments of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and steps towards achieving an active role in climate action and the further development of the national health system.

4- A memorandum by the Minister of Finance and National Economy on the National Gender Balance Report (2019-2020) prepared by the Supreme Council for Women. The report aims to measure the effectiveness and impact of policies and legislation in achieving the national plan for the advancement of Bahraini women and strengthening the position of the Kingdom of Bahrain as a center of international expertise in women’s affairs.

The report revealed that the general index of gender balance in the Kingdom for the years 2019-2020 has risen to 69%, reaching 73% in the main areas reviewed. The corporate performance index reached 65%, with increased participation of women in specialized positions, the legislature, commercial activity, and representation on boards and committees.

5- Memorandum of the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism on the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Tourism Strategy (2022-2026). The strategy aims to highlight the Kingdom’s position as a global tourism center. This includes increasing the contribution of the tourism sector to the GDP and diversifying tourism through many initiatives and projects. The strategy aims to enhance tourist attractions, accommodation and investment opportunities in the Kingdom.

6- A memorandum by the Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Education and Training Quality Authority regarding the annual report of the Education and Training Quality Authority for the year 2021. The report reviews the performance of education and training. Institutions after implementing exceptional frameworks for assessment during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

7- A note on digital policies aimed at enhancing e-government services and facilitating their use in business development.

8- A memorandum by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding the government’s response to a proposal for a law submitted by the Shura Council.

Then the Council of Ministers took note of the ministerial reports, including: the Ministerial Conference to Support Stability in Libya, the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, and the results of the twenty-second meeting of the Ministerial Committee to follow up on the implementation of joint Gulf action decisions. In addition to the results of the Kingdom of Bahrain hosting the seventh meeting of the GCC Health Ministers Committee and the 84th session of the GCC Health Ministers, and participating in many meetings and discussions of the GCC Ministers of Trade and Industry. reviewed.
