‘Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry keen to serve fishermen, develop ports’

Manama, May 13 (BNA): Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak affirmed the ministry’s continuation in improving the services it provides to fishermen.

He pointed out that this can be done through developing services in ports and modernizing the infrastructure of the fishing sector to meet the needs of its workers, which will contribute to increasing food production.

This came during the Minister’s speech while he was on an inspection visit to the port of Sitra with the concerned officials.

He indicated that he aims through his visit to collect first-hand information about the port areas in which the private sector can invest to support the fish industry, stressing that the private sector is a key partner in the Kingdom’s efforts to increase food. production.

The Ministry is conducting a comprehensive and integrated study of these ports with the aim of developing them and providing more facilities in them in order to meet the needs of fishermen and workers in the fishing industry, as well as providing the infrastructure required by this profession to serve workers in this field. It also developed an integrated plan to maintain the level of services and ensure continuous maintenance of the ports.

He added that the interest of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture in developing fishing ports in the Kingdom stems from the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to develop and implement a strategic plan to increase national food production, indicating that the projects enjoy continuous support from the United Arab Emirates. The government is led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He stressed that the ministry has already started implementing its strategy to develop 11 ports in the Kingdom.
