‘Bahrain Through Stamps’ book wins international award

Manama, February 22 (BNA) The book “Bahrain Through Stamps” by Younis Hashem Al-Kooheji won the silver medal at the London International Philatelic Fair, which is considered one of the most prestigious international book fairs.

Younis Al Kooheji, a member of the Bahrain Society of History and Antiquities, a member of the Bahrain Philatelic Society and the former president of the Bahrain Philatelic Society, said in a statement to the Bahrain News Agency (BNA), that the award is the third awarded to this book. This is thanks to the uniqueness of its content, noting that it contains stamps that testify to the progress of Bahrain over the ages.

He pointed out that the medal reflects Bahrain’s distinction at the international level, in light of the fierce competition during the exhibition in which 338 books from 62 countries competed.

The author, Al-Kooheji, highly valued the support of the Minister of Information Affairs, Ali bin Muhammad Al-Rumaihi, who opened the book in 2016 during the inauguration of the Media Center for the Summit of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.

He added that the book “Bahrain Through Stamps” is one of the distinguished publications of the Bahrain News Agency, expressing his appreciation to the Ministry of Information Affairs for encouraging such quality publications, and for publishing the book.

He pointed out that the book contains more than 400 cards, the first of its kind in Bahrain and the second in the Gulf after the similar book published by Ali Rais from Kuwait.

He pointed out that the idea of ​​the book emerged during the meetings of the Bahraini Philatelic Society, noting that it came as a result of his efforts in collecting stamps, and the support of the members of the Bahraini Philatelic Society, especially Saleh Al-Hassan.

Regarding the book, Al-Kooheji said that it includes postage stamps issued in Bahrain, and it consists of 400 pages in both Arabic and English, and contains 20 chapters focusing on different topics and fields, noting that the stamps document the most prominent Bahraini palaces, places of worship and antiquities. Natural attractions, nautical activities, heritage occupations, cities, oil industry, ports, hotels, horse racing and more.

The book “Bahrain Through Stamps” documents the kingdom’s political, cultural and social history and its human and urban development over the years. She won the bronze medal in Bangkok and the silver medal in Sharjah.

It is a fruitful outcome of the Agency’s efforts to enhance the national march through publications that shed light on the important stages in the history of the Kingdom and document its civilizational and developmental achievements in various fields.
