More than 100 officials from Tunisia’s Islamist Ennahda Party resign amid crisis

Tunis, September 25 (BNA) More than 100 senior officials of the Tunisian Islamist Ennahda party, including former MPs and ministers, resigned in protest against the leadership’s performance, in the biggest blow yet to the party facing a sharp split.

Ennahda, the largest party in parliament, entered into crisis after President Kais Saied sacked the government and suspended parliament on July 25, Reuters reported.

In a statement, 113 senior party officials said that they resigned due to wrong choices by the Ennahda leadership, which led to his dismissal and not engaging in any common front to confront Said’s decisions.

Among the resignations are eight deputies and a number of former ministers, including former Health Minister Abdellatif Makki.
