Higher Education Secretay-General participates in UNEP’s digital transformation conference

Manama, September 25 (BNA) The Secretary-General of the Higher Education Council and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Sheikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, stated that the Kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, attaches great importance to protecting the environment and preserving natural resources, adding that the government Under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, remarkable progress has been made in all these areas, as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 have been integrated into its Action Plan and Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.

Dr. Sheikha Rana, while participating as a high-level member of the “Digital Transformation Conference on Environmental Sustainability – A Perspective from West Asia”, organized by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), added that Bahrain has implemented a number of initiatives to support efforts. Protecting and preserving the environment, citing the launch of Bahrain’s National Environment Strategy, the establishment of the Supreme Council for the Environment, the hosting of the United Nations Environment Program’s regional office for West Asia, and the holding of conferences in this field.

She pointed out that the higher education sector in the Kingdom and various countries has benefited from the digital transformation, noting that the technology of online education paved the way for the continuation of education despite the spread of the emerging pandemic of the Corona virus.

She stressed that increasing the digitization of higher education would support efforts to confront the pandemic and the accompanying additional environmental challenges, stressing the need to educate future generations and provide them with the necessary knowledge to become responsible for the sustainability of this planet, by integrating a mindset directed towards better sustainability in academia and education. higher.
