LMRA meets US Congress staff delegation

Manama, October 16 (BNA): Members of the US Congress, who are currently visiting the US House of Representatives, praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in developing the labor market and adopting the highest international standards in protecting and preserving the rights of labor parties. kingdom.

The delegation affirmed that they noticed an integrated institutional work by the Labor Market Regulatory Authority and its partners, citing its unremitting efforts to review and develop procedures in a way that contributes to enhancing the work environment and providing all conditions that achieve justice. and fairness.

The delegation highlighted the Kingdom’s pioneering efforts at the level of the region and many other countries in combating human trafficking, which is positively reflected on Bahrain’s position as proven by many international reports and the United Nations, including the annual report of the US State Department for State Affairs. Combating human trafficking, as the country maintained its first rank for the fourth year in a row, leading the countries in the Middle East and North Africa in this regard.

This came during a visit by a delegation from the US Congress to the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, where they were received by the Executive Vice President for Resources and Services Ashraf Hafez Imam, and the Director of Grievances and Protection Sherine Khalil Al-Saati, in the presence of representatives from the authority. Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Officials of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority reviewed the efforts made by the Kingdom and the measures implemented by the Authority to confront any direct and indirect effects of the emerging epidemic of the Corona virus on the labor market in particular and the workforce in general.

The meeting highlighted the most important projects and initiatives launched by the Labor Market Regulatory Authority to protect workers’ rights, including the wage protection system that the Labor Market Regulatory Authority began implementing in May 2021.

The system allows the Labor Market Regulatory Authority – as a licensing authority – to know the extent of the commitment of private sector institutions to pay the agreed wages on time, in accordance with the conditions stipulated in the Labor Law in the private sector.

Officials of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority confirmed that the wage protection system is one of the pioneering initiatives aimed at developing the work environment, noting that it is expected to contribute to reducing labor issues related to wages and speeding up their settlement.

They affirmed the Kingdom’s keenness to preserve the work environment and prevent any measures that may lead to exploitation, extortion or human trafficking, stressing that respect for individuals’ rights and equality among them is a distinctive feature of the societal culture prevailing in Bahrain.
