Liverpool fights back to earn 2-2 draw with Arsenal

London, Apr. 9 (BNA): Roberto Firmino scored an 87th-minute equalizer to put a hole in Arsenal’s challenge for the Premier League title to a 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.

The Brazilian forward slotted in the far corner to complete a thrilling comeback from the Merseyside club after Arsenal took a two-goal lead at Anfield, the Associated Press reports.

Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus had the league leaders in control. However, Mohamed Salah reduced the deficit before the end of the first half, then missed a penalty kick after the break.

With Arsenal looking to extend their lead at the top to eight points over Manchester City, Firmino scored what could prove to be a decisive goal in the title race.

It was all going well for the visitors as Martinelli fired them ahead in the eighth minute when he took advantage of a Virgil van Dijk error.

Arsenal took a 2–0 lead in the 28th minute through Gabriel Jesus, with Martinelli, the goalkeeper, crossing for his fellow Brazilian to head the ball in from close range.

Liverpool moved forward in the second half and had a chance to equalize when they were awarded a penalty seven minutes into the second half.

Rob Holding brought down Diogo Jota, but Salah failed to capitalize on the penalty when he fired wide.

Liverpool had more chances, as substitute Darwin Nunez pulled off a save from Aaron Ramsdale, but Arsenal seemed to hold on for a decisive win until Firmino’s goal.
