Palace routs Leeds 5-1 in comeback Premier League win

London, Apr. 9 (BNA): Crystal Palace beat Leeds 5-1 on Sunday to secure their second successive victory under new manager Roy Hodgson and boost their chances of survival in the English Premier League.

Hodgson was lured into retirement last month as Palace turned to their former manager in a bid to avoid relegation, according to the Associated Press.

And he made an immediate impact, picking up the most points in his first two matches for the London club.

Jordan Ayew led a second-half scoring spree at Elland Road after Patrick Bamford put Leeds ahead after 21 minutes.

Mark Joy equalized in first-half injury time before Palace took over after the break.

Palace moved into twelfth place, while Leeds remained in sixteenth place, two points off

Leeds took the lead when Bamford headed in his 50th goal for the club in all competitions.

Palace equalized with a close-range goal from Guehi, who was eventually ruled out after a VAR check.

Then Palace turned the match on its head, stunning the hosts with two goals in three minutes early in the second half.

Ayew beat Luke Ayling to head home a cross from the right wing of Michael Ulis to make it 2-1 in the 53rd minute.

It was 3-1 in the 55th minute through Ibreche Eze and in the 69th minute Edouard fired a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Ayew made it 5–1 with his second goal in the 77th minute, scoring from eight yards out, after Will Hughes’ attempt fell into his path.
