KHUH team succeeds in separating conjoined twins

Dar es Salaam, July 3 (BNA) A specialized surgical team from King Hamad University Hospital succeeded in separating two conjoined twins in Tanzania.


Five specialists in the fields of anesthesia, pediatric surgery and plastic surgery, led by the consultant pediatric surgeon at King Hussein University Hospital, Professor Martin Corbali, participated in the complex operation that lasted about eight hours continuously.


Major General Dr. Sheikh Salman bin Attiya Allah Al Khalifa, commander of King Hamad University Hospital, said that the surgery was carried out within an agreement signed between King Hamad University Hospital and the Irish Child Life Association, a charitable association that provides a lifeline for afflicted children. in Tanzania and Vietnam since 2012.


He added that the hospital responded to the call to save the life of the Siamese twins by sending the team to Muhambili Hospital for surgery.


The medical team confirmed the success of the operation despite the difficulties and challenges it faced during the separation process, noting that the operation is considered one of the most complex operations as the twins share the liver and rib cage.
