Juventus beats Fiorentina 1-0 on Cuadrado stoppage-time goal

Rome, November 6 (BNA) – Juan Cuadrado’s stoppage-time goal gave Juventus a 1-0 win over 10-man Fiorentina and ended a three-match winning streak in Serie A on Saturday.

Juventus did not even take a shot on goal until just before Cuadrado’s goal, although it hit the crossbar and disallowed the goal for offside, according to the Associated Press.

Those chances came only after Fiorentina defender Nikola Milinkovic was sent off in the 73rd minute for two yellow cards in quick succession.

Juventus is equal on points with Fiorentina VII. It is 13 points behind Serie A leaders AC Milan and Napoli before the rest of the weekend’s matches. Milan plays Inter Milan in Sunday’s derby match, shortly after Napoli host Hellas Verona.

Fifth-placed Atalanta played last for Cagliari later. Juventus were perfect in the Champions League, coming off consecutive defeats in Serie A, and were already without Leonardo Bonucci and also lost defender Giorgio Chiellini to injury in a friendly.

Neither side hinted at the goal in a modest first half in Turin, but Juve almost scored a superb goal shortly after the break as Alvaro Morata fired a shot over Milkovic before firing it wide of the left post.

Milenković was booked in the 66th minute for bringing down Weston McKennie and was given a second yellow card and sent off after seven minutes for a foul on Federico Chiesa.

This seemed to bring Juventus to life as Chiesa hit the crossbar shortly afterwards with a powerful shot from a narrow angle before Morata’s goal was ruled out for offside.

Juventus finally scored his first shot on goal in the 86th minute, but Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano managed to block a shot from Chiesa, who joined Juventus on loan from Fiorentina last year.
