Interior Minister visits Civil Defence

Manama, April 13 (BNA) Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa today visited the General Directorate of Civil Defense. He was received by the Chief of Public Security, Lieutenant-General Tariq Al-Hassan, and the Director General of Civil Defense.

He praised the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Minister of Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, to upgrade the development and modernization system at the Ministry of Interior to provide the best security services and enhance public safety for citizens and residents.

The Minister of Interior expressed his thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the civil defense personnel and their distinguished security professionalism in protecting lives and property. He pointed to the continuous development of the civil defense fleet and equipment to meet the needs of the next stage. He revealed the intensification of training courses in dealing with emergency situations. He stressed the importance of educating the community based on a well-researched culture.

During the visit, the Minister of Interior was briefed on security and safety procedures in addressing radiation risks, including proactive steps and detection methods. He was also briefed on the response and preparedness plans of the Hazardous Materials Unit for emergencies and awareness activities.

The briefing also included the objectives of the National Emergency Strategy and the progress made in forming a national awareness platform for emergencies to promote a new concept of community partnership to create a risk-free environment that relies on community efforts. It also highlighted the requirements for developing the Civil Defense Department for sterilization and handling of hazardous materials.

In this context, the Minister of Interior highlighted the importance of periodic review of procedures and strengthening of prevention and civil protection measures to assess readiness to face potential risks of disasters and emergencies. Instructed to evaluate the efficiency of responses, prompt actions and plans.


He pointed out the importance of joint national exercises between the relevant security sectors and realistic scenarios for building capacities and enhancing cooperation. He wished everyone well in the service of the country.
