Industry minister meets with BCCI Food Sector Committee

Manama, Jan. 3 (BNA): Minister of Industry and Commerce, Abdullah bin Adel Fakhro, praised the main role of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry in supporting the development process in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He stressed the ministry’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the framework of partnership with the private sector to secure the needs of the local market and meet consumer demands.

This came during a meeting of the Minister of Industry and Commerce with members of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Chamber’s headquarters. The meeting was held in the presence of the President of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Samir bin Abdullah Nass, and his first deputy, Khalid Muhammad Najibi. It was also attended by members of the Food Sector Committee of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry and more than 20 food merchants representing many companies.

The Minister of Industry and Trade pointed to the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the ministry and companies importing food staff to ensure the availability of various products in the local markets. He also stressed the importance of diversifying import sources for the sake of food security and addressing any imbalance in the international import chains.

A number of food traders participating in the meeting pointed to a noticeable decrease in the prices of some basic commodities. They said that they are looking forward to further decline and stability in prices during the first quarter of this year.

The Minister of Industry and Trade affirmed the sustainability of food security in Bahrain in accordance with international indicators, thanks to the government’s efforts in this regard.
