Manama, Dec. 8 (BNA): The Information and eGovernment Authority presented a set of digital initiatives and services during the Arab International Cybersecurity Summit 2022 (AICS), which was held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad. The Information and eGovernment Authority highlighted its role in embracing technology and supporting digital transformation in the Kingdom of Bahrain at the exhibition that was held on the sidelines of the summit. This included initiatives related to digital policies, electronic services and the development of electronic channels, in addition to achievements related to information and communication technology and the Digital Economy Strategy (2022-2026).
The Information and eGovernment Authority’s booth was well received by visitors who learned about the projects that aim to empower companies and the digital society by streamlining the information and communication technology infrastructure, government e-services, and national systems and data. These initiatives come within a group of the Information and eGovernment Authority’s offers presented through electronic channels in cooperation with government and private sector institutions, which are provided in an effective and safe technical environment to prepare to confront cybersecurity threats, and in line with the vision of the Kingdom’s supreme leadership and government. The kiosk was divided into several sections, including a section for digital channels and e-services, which reached 572 e-services available to the public via the national portal, bahrain.bh and mobile apps downloadable from the e-government app store, bahrain.bh/apps. Another section was devoted to national data and statistics, as it focused on the importance of providing accurate and reliable data that support the national economy and help decision-makers. The data is provided by the Statistics Department of the Information and eGovernment Authority, and includes national statistics, publications, and periodic reports such as national accounts, consumer price index (CPI), foreign trade, and more.
The Information and eGovernment Authority has also allocated a section for the Building Permits Portal (Banayat), which is an important national system that allows users to request building permits for investment, residential, industrial and commercial projects throughout the Kingdom, as well as to inquire about the status of their applications.
During AICS, the Information and eGovernment Authority also showcased the new self-service kiosks, which is an electronic channel that allows the public convenient access to services such as managing the electronic key and upgrading to an advanced electronic key account, in addition to updating the ID card data chip, and registering for the government. Many other exhibitors from Bahrain and abroad participated in the event, including representatives from government, cyber security, industrial and financial services, insurance, oil and gas, power, ICT and education.
Cybersecurity specialists from the government and the private sector participated in the summit, where they discussed new technologies and strategies aimed at creating more robust information technology infrastructures, as well as exchanging successful local and international experiences in this field.
