HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister directs provision of breakthrough drug for treatment of sickle cell disease

Manama, October 6 / BNA / In line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health has begun providing a revolutionary drug treatment for crizanlizumab patients. Those suffering from sickle cell disease.

The UK’s National Health Service recently started offering the treatment, the first treatment for the disease in 20 years.

Crizanlizumab can be used by drip transfusion in sickle cell patients over 16 years of age. The revolutionary drug works by binding to a protein in the blood cells to prevent a restriction in the supply of blood and oxygen.
