HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister attends COP27

Shar Al-Sheikh, November 7 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, attended today on behalf of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2022. (COP27) held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt .

Upon his arrival at the conference, His Highness the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister were received by the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

His Royal Highness highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to supporting international cooperation to implement green initiatives that mitigate climate change.

His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister noted the role of innovation and technology in developing new and effective green solutions that benefit current and future generations.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad called for increased international cooperation to address climate change and highlighted environmental sustainability as a shared responsibility and a fundamental pillar of economic growth and development.

His Royal Highness commended Egypt for hosting the high-level global event, which provides an opportunity for countries to exchange new ideas and affirm their commitment to global climate goals.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad indicated the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, and confirmed that the Kingdom is making significant progress towards its 2035 goals set at the Glasgow Conference in the United Kingdom (COP26).

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad indicated that the Kingdom has introduced various policies and programs to help it achieve its climate goals. This includes investing in carbon technologies and a national afforestation plan, which will double the number of trees in the Kingdom of Bahrain and cover four times the mangrove trees. The kingdom has planted 140,000 trees, exceeding its annual target, and achieving its annual goal of expanding mangrove coverage.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman stressed that the Kingdom aims to reduce emissions by 30% by investing in decarbonization and energy efficiency initiatives and doubling renewable energy, noting that Bahrain was able to increase its sources of renewable energy by 40% in the past year.

In this regard, His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister indicated the Kingdom’s commitment to developing advanced solutions for carbon capture, use and storage.

His Highness concluded by affirming his best wishes for the success of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties, which he hopes will contribute to international cooperation on climate change and promote global growth and prosperity.
