HM King’s directives to adopt open prisons programme praised by Arab Parliament Speaker

Cairo, October 17 (BNA) The Speaker of the Arab House of Representatives, Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Asumi affirmed that the Kingdom has achieved many achievements in the field of human rights thanks to the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. .

In this regard, he referred to the package of initiatives adopted by the Kingdom to consolidate human rights principles thanks to His Majesty the King’s direct support for the rule of law and institutions.

This came during Al-Soumi’s speech while presiding over the opening session of the second session of the third legislative term of the Arab Parliament, which was held at the headquarters of the Associated Press here today.

In his speech during the meeting, Al-Soumi referred to the steady development of the human rights system in the Kingdom in line with the directives of His Majesty the King to start putting in place the necessary executive mechanisms to adopt the reform program and open prisons in the Kingdom, which he said represents a pioneering qualitative leap resulting from a civilized and enlightened mindset in the field of human rights.

The head of the Associated Press also highlighted other initiatives that the Kingdom is currently implementing, such as the system of alternative sentences and restorative justice for children, which comply with the highest international human rights standards, and have a humanitarian dimension, which enhances the strength of the Kingdom. During the same session, Member of the Arab House of Representatives, Representative Mamdouh Al-Saleh, praised the progress that the Arab Parliament is witnessing, through the establishment of centers and mechanisms that support its work, as one of the main regional and international institutions.

He praised the directives of His Majesty the King to put in place the necessary executive mechanisms for the open prisons program adopted by the Kingdom, noting that the scheme represents a qualitative leap in the field of human rights, and confirms Bahrain’s leadership in this.

MP Al-Saleh stressed that Bahrain attaches great importance to human rights, which is reflected in the application of the alternative sentences system and the adoption of the Restorative Justice Law for Children, in addition to the rapid response of the Minister of Interior, Major General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah. Al Khalifa to the royal directives to set the executive regulations for the open prison system.

He stressed that the protection of human rights is a national file par excellence, and everyone is keen on its success and the establishment of new humanitarian principles that reflect the patriarchal and humanitarian sense of His Majesty the King.

The AP session also included the inauguration of the Arab Center for Combating Terrorism and Extremist Ideology as an institutional tool to provide the necessary technical support in this vital field. It is also the first center of its kind in the Arab world to support parliamentary efforts to combat terrorism.
