FIFA to hold online summit with associations over biennial World Cup

Berlin, September 20 (BNA) The International Football Association Board (FIFA) is holding a meeting with its member associations regarding the controversial plan to host the World Cup every two years.

The International Football Association Board (FIFA) announced on Monday that an online summit on the international match calendar will be held on September 30, German news agency dpa reported.

FIFA’s proposal to hold the World Cup every two years instead of every four years has sparked criticism in Europe, with UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin threatening a boycott, and the German Football Association (DFB) dismayed.

Other regions of the world are keen on the plan and FIFA conducted a fan poll that showed support for the idea, although various statistics within the survey indicated otherwise.
