FIA opens application process for new F1 teams

Paris, Feb. 2 (BNA): Formula 1 moved a step closer to expanding the network when the International Automobile Federation (FIA) launched the application process for potential new teams on Thursday.

That could be in favor of Andretti Global, which Michael Andretti partners with General Motors’ Cadillac brand, according to the Associated Press.

The US alliance has been pressing the FIA to join F1 but is facing opposition from existing teams who are concerned that the eleventh team will reduce their income.

The FIA said on Thursday there was a “high level of interest from a number of potential candidates” but did not name any of them.

Potential candidates will be asked about their environmental credentials and how they can make a ‘positive societal impact’ by joining F1.
