Express Cargo Village foundation stone laid at Bahrain International Airport

Manama, June 13 (BNA) The Bahrain Airport Company, the operator and administrative body of Bahrain International Airport, announced the laying of the foundation stone for the Express Cargo Village located north of the airport runway.

This comes in line with the Kingdom’s strategy for the logistics industry as stipulated in the economic recovery plan, in implementation of the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. It also comes after the announcement of the Council of Ministers headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Transport and Communications and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bahrain Airport Company, Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cibarco Bahrain, Dr. Khalid Abdul Rahim, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chairman of Bahrain Customs in addition to a number of officials of the Bahrain Airport Company.

The minister said that the express freight village will boost the growth of the logistics industry, enhance its regional competitiveness and its ability to attract investment. Logistics is one of the high priority sectors identified in Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.

He added that one of the main objectives of the economic recovery plan is to accelerate the adoption of a logistics strategy, and that the Express Cargo Village will increase the cargo capacity of Bahrain International Airport in line with the highest standards as it will use advanced technologies to improve efficiency and achieve growth goals. Air freight and e-commerce.

The minister said that the logistics strategy aims to further develop the sector and enhance its efficiency by accelerating the process of linking operations at Bahrain International Airport with those of Khalifa Bin Salman Port, and simplifying land transportation procedures, to make the Kingdom a preferred destination for freight and goods. E-Commerce.

He congratulated Cebarco Bahrain on its appointment as the main contractor for the Express Shipping Village. The tender includes the construction of warehouses, aircraft yards and associated finishing outlets. He highlighted the strong capabilities of Cebarco Bahrain, wishing its team success in implementing the project.

Spread over an area of ​​25,000 square metres, the Express Cargo Village at Bahrain International Airport is an advanced logistics hub that includes dedicated premises to serve each freight operator in line with the highest international standards. It ensures that all operations are carried out quickly and smoothly in one place, which enables the airport to handle larger quantities of cargo efficiently, better meet the requirements of freight customers, and create new business opportunities.

Bahrain Airport Company earlier signed a 10-year agreement with global logistics giant, FedEx Express, to allocate 9,000 square meters to it to operate a 5,000 square meter warehouse and 4,000 square meters open space, which will be delivered in the third quarter of 2023.

In November 2018, Bahrain Airport Company signed an agreement with French engineering consultancy Aegis to oversee the design and construction of the Express Cargo Village, which consists of warehouses, yards and infrastructure capable of handling the expected growth in air freight and e-commerce.
