Amsterdam, March 3 (BUS) : The European Medicines Agency said it has allowed Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine for children aged 6-11, as well as recommending Pfizer booster vaccines for those aged 12 and over, in decisions aimed at providing More protection. EU Vaccines Head Dr Marco Cavalieri said Moderna’s vaccine for younger children would be half a dose of what is given to older adolescents and adults.
He said research has shown that young children have an immune response similar to that observed in the older population “as measured by the level of neutralizing antibodies” against the COVID-19 virus, which was reported by the Associated Press.
Cavalieri said Moderna’s dose is also recommended for use as a booster dose in people who have received other vaccines.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was previously given the green light for use in children age five and older last November.
Cavalieri said data from countries including Israel and the United States in more than 400,000 children showed the third dose of Pfizer-BioNTec vaccine in 12 children was safe and effective.
Children are usually less likely to contract severe COVID-19 but remain at risk amid high levels of transmission.
In recent weeks, cases and deaths across Europe have fallen significantly after peaking in late January. But the numbers are still rising in some places with lower vaccination rates in others, including Russia and Turkey.
